Training Topics
For many helping professionals, faith is an important part of how they understand people, suffering, meaning, and healing. At the same time, ethical practice requires us to remain grounded in research, clinical standards, and the growing understanding of the brain and nervous system. The Faith and Science Institute was created to bring those worlds together — without spiritual bypassing, shame, coercion, or abandoning clinical integrity.

Training That Goes Beyond Symptoms
People are more than a diagnosis. Trauma can affect the brain and nervous system, but it can also change how a person understands themselves, other people, God, safety, purpose, and the meaning of what happened to them. Effective care sometimes requires us to address all of those dimensions.

Invisible Wounds: Beyond PTSD — Recognizing and Treating Moral Injury
Trauma is not always rooted in fear. For first responders, veterans, healthcare professionals, and others exposed to morally complex situations, suffering may center around guilt, shame, betrayal, responsibility, or a loss of trust in oneself, others, leadership, or God. This training helps professionals recognize moral injury, distinguish it from traditional trauma responses, and understand treatment approaches that support moral repair, meaning-making, and healing.

Four Pillars of Integrative Training
Faith-Anchored
We approach faith as a meaningful source of identity, values, connection, resilience, and meaning — while respecting each person's autonomy and spiritual experience.
Science-Grounded
Training content is informed by current research, neuroscience, trauma theory, and established therapeutic approaches.
Trauma-Informed
We prioritize safety, consent, dignity, nervous-system awareness, and an understanding of how trauma shapes behavior, beliefs, relationships, and meaning.
Ethically Integrated
Faith should never be used to shame, minimize suffering, pressure clients, or replace competent clinical care. We teach professionals to integrate spiritual considerations thoughtfully and within their professional scope.
